Ah yes locations. This is the first question I get asked during a discovery call.
Locations are such an important part of a business photoshoot and can be super tricky.
The easiest one is your own space of course. Firstly it reflects your style and personality already and secondly it’s the most affordable option. Though what if you don’t have an office with enough natural light, or you work from your kitchen table and you don’t want to show it or it’s simply not big enough to fit another person in there. (Well I did manage a shoot in a super tinny space but you have to be aware most of this images will be portrait style and not ideal for the banners on websites.)
So here is a list of locations ideas you might want to consider for your own brand photoshoot; plus spotlight on 3 amazing co-working spaces in Hampshire.
A FRIENDS OR PAST CLIENTS HOME / AIRBNB / HOTEL
Yes the location needs to represent you but more importantly support the stories you want to portrait. You can add personality to a rented place through props and little personal things you use at home and in your daily routine. Above all the location of your choice should have enough natural light and a bit of space to step back, only then you get images with enough white space for those super useful banner shots.
One of my clients asked her regular customer if she could use her gorgeous kitchen for a couple of hours. And you know what, she was actually flattered and excited she got asked. I know not everyone would react that way but the worst thing can happen is, they say no.
She brought all the props and food from home to make it more hers and voila she has the brand images she envisioned for her business.
NATURE
Not all of the shoots have to be indoors. I like to split the shoot and take some images outside. Consider locations like your favourite beach, park, gardens and forest. It might be a place where you like to go for a walk and enjoy some time away from the business. For example you might like to go for a run in the park, maybe you take the dog for a walk in the nearby woods or you enjoy having picnics at the beach. As long as they tell your story and they make sense for you and your business.
One of my clients goes for an early walk at the field opposite her house. Therefore she wanted to include this in her stories because it’s something she does for herself and it is super important to her and her mental health. These shots are great to include movement and show more of your personality.

CITY CENTRE / TOWN
There is always a little space which we don’t see on our regular visit in the city centre or in town but once you start looking you suddenly notice the plain walls, the colourful doors or the interesting side streets. If you’re thinking about having a brand shoot, just start taking photos of places you think could work for your shoot.
COFFEE SHOPS
I love coffee shops, I love the vibe of them and the smell of fresh brewed coffee, oh and yes they are awesome for a brand shoot. Certainly most of us enjoy a walk down to our favourite coffee shop and before Covid most of us worked at least once or twice from a coffee shop or met a client for a chat. Order your favourite drink and snack and create a fun little scene. Coffee shops are just great to create different looks.
CO-WORKING SPACES
If your own office space is not ideal for a personal business shoot then check out the local co-working spaces. You can hire a meeting room for a few hours or sometimes you can hire the whole space on specific days. Check a few of the spaces I shot in the last years.
Maven in Winchester
Maven is a stylish boutique co-working space just for women. You can hire the whole space on certain days. It has a lot of white space, gorgeous natural light and beautiful modern, femenin decor. Plus point, it also has a coffee shop just in front of the door.
So Fourteen in Southampton
This co-working space is nice and spacious and it gives each area a different feel with the help of the quirky wall papers. It is just a walk away from the city centre and the water side. Perfect to get you covered with some differnet looks.
Network Eagle Lab in Southampton
Network Eagle Lab has some great facilities for entrepreneurs. It’s not just a co-working space but also provides you with a photo studio, laser cutter and 3d printer which I think is quite cool. This space works for a brand not afraid of colours and contrast. Again very close to the city centre, Guldhall, coffee shops and a park.
Things to keep in mind when you start looking for a location for a business photoshoot:
Is the space versatile? Can you capture different stories in one locatio?
Does it have enough natural light?
Does is support your brand style?
Or is it plain enough to add my own style?
Are there any other possible locations close by I can use to make the most of the time?
Thinking about having brand shoot to uplevel your business but don’t know where to start?!
